Do you have thick, yellow, or dark toenails....? It is likely a nail fungus.
Toenail fungus is extremely common. It is estimated that it affects up to 12% of the population, or over 35 million people in the
U.S. alone. This often leads to embarrassing yellow or black discoloration of the toenail. As the fungus progresses, the toenail
becomes thick and starts to lift off the nail bed. This can additionally lead to secondary problems such as bleeding under the nail, nail bed ulceration, and more serious bacterial infections. Treatment in the past has included medication that was applied directly to the nail or taken by mouth. More severe cases usually required the nail to be removed, often permanently. Nail laser treatment for toenail fungus is the latest way to manage this difficult problem. The older lasers have been available to the general public for several years. These older machines are tedious to operate, often taking up to 45 minutes to treat 10 nails. This leads to user fatigue and error, resulting in less than optimal results. New nail lasers have only been approved for a couple of years. The new lasers, such as the Alma ClearChoice nail laser, are proving to be much faster and more effective in eliminating the nail fungus.
